The 2.5 Km long Sandhan Valley trek is a water carved valley around 200 feet deep and guarded on both sides by gigantic rock walls as high as 400 ft. Miniature waterfalls amidst asymmetrical boulders scattered unevenly over the place offer a lovely sight. The trek is made up of stones and ponds with alternate rocky and water patches with a combination of adventure activities such as rappelling and takes about three to five hours depending on the set pace.
The trekking and camping expeditions begin from Samrad village with a guide. The campsite has tents with accommodation on a sharing basis. Tent mats and light are provided and toilet tents with dry pit toilet are available. The best time of the year to visit Sandhan is after the monsoon around November and up to May. During Monsoon the trek path is filled with water and can be unfriendly for trekkers to get to the end of the trek. Also, camping at nights during monsoon is dangerous.
A three day trekking expedition to Sandhan valley can be an experience like none other. Canyoning, trekking, rappelling, rock climbing, Sliding, Wading through waist deep water and a bonfire camping are the features offered. Tour operators provide with refreshments on arriving at the campsite in the evening and dinner that night. An early wakeup call and breakfast are provided before the trek. The difficulty level can be rated as medium to tough category.
