Bir Billing is a place full of surprises and every time I go there, I am surprised by something totally new and unusual which I did not notice the last time I went. Bir Billing camping is one these jewels that are simply worth exploring. Camping on the edge of the mountain with nothing but an endless view of nature to enjoy is something I crave for all the time while living in the city. The suitable currents and an ideal cloud base makes it a perfect place for paragliding whereas the beautiful surroundings gives it that magical touch that no other paragliding site in India could ever match.

As we reached Billing and settled in our tents, I realised, it cannot get better than this. Imagine a book in your hand (I am bookaholic, you can imagine anything at all), with a coffee mug and a beautiful view of an endless valley from your tent. This is how magical it is up there guys. The best thing about camping in Billing is the property is just 10 minutes walk from the Paragliding site and is on the edge of the cliff with no obstruction but an endless valley to stare at all day long. Trust me, I am reliving that moment again while writing about this because it was just so beautiful ❤

The trek starts from Gaushaini which is located at 80 kms from Mandi. The journey from Mandi to Gaushaini is extremely beautiful and is either along Beas or Tirthan valley. The first day trek is from Gaushaini to Rolla which is a total distance of 8 kms. Due to the steepness of the path, it would take you minimum 5 hours to reach Rolla. The journey till Rolla is full of waterfalls, wooden bridges and small villages. This mountain valley in all its glory would tempt you to take a dip but it would be better to concentrate to keep climbing and have such activities on your climb down.

The valley of Flowers dwells at the Chamoli district and the base of the trek is Ghangaria. And the best time to visit is from July to October. Well, there are several routes to reach the base from any city, but the most convenient one with less hopping at places is Dehradun-Joshimath-Govindghat. Ghangaria is the base of the trek. If you have seldom days in hand or your only purpose for the trip is to trek the Valley of Flowers, you can skip the stay at Govindghat and directly reach Ghangria. This is advisable to do a day prior the trek so that you are in high spirit on the trek day.
